Save Kauai brings together current information about Kauai and web-based tools that allow you to take action. If we want to affect the future of Kauai in a pono way we must organize and begin implementing solutions, not just fighting the problems.

Volunteer Opportunities

Zero Waste Kauai needs Volunteers for KIUC picnic Sat, June 21st

Who: Call for Zero Waste Kauai volunteers!

Where: KIUC Annual Picnic, Vidinha Stadium Map of Vidinha Memorial Stadium, Kapula Street

When: Saturday, June 21st, 2008

What: Volunteer for Resource Stream Diversion

Why: Because you care!

Some of you volunteered for Taste of Hawaii’s diversion … and thank you! We learned a lot from that event (including that we should follow the truck ;0) … and it is even MORE important that this event is covered productively so that the first food waste permit for Kauai does not go to waste!

For newcomers, this is what we are looking for. Rather than having a singular waste bin that everyone throws all trash into – and having it dumped at the landfill. We will have 3 bins at each collection station, labeled “Compostables”, “Recyclables” and “Waste”. Volunteers are needed to ‘supervise’ the disposal of waste to ensure that the streams are NOT contaminated and to divert as much as possible from the “Waste” cans. The invitees from this event will be a different crowd from Taste of Hawaii, and perhaps even more in need of the incredible interactive education we were able to provide at the last event.
