Halau Palaihiwa O Kaipuwai Announces
Registration for Summer Classes in Kilauea and Lihu`e

WAIPOULI, KAUA`I – Kehaulani Kekua, Kumu Hula of Halau Palaihiwa is registering students from now to June for its upcoming summer semester. Two new locations are now available for classes on the north shore in Kilauea and at Kalapaki in Lihu`e which will begin in June. Formal instruction in Hawaiian chant and dance – both hula kahiko and hula `auana, along with music, language and other creative art forms associated with hula are offered for all ages, 3 years to adult. The halau is actively recruiting male students (boys and men) into its new Keiki Kane (boys 8 - 12) and Kane Hula (men 13 & older) classes. The halau provides opportunity for cultural learning, performances, travel, competition and more. No prior experience is necessary.

Orientation and registration for enrollment of new and returning students will be held on Saturday, May 24 at the Kaua`i Marriott Resort at Kalapaki from 9am to 12noon and on Saturday, May 31 at the Malama Kaua`i Center in Kilauea from 9am to 12noon. Sierra Club hike open to the public:
Sat. May 31 -Upper Wailua River hike. Follow a hunter's route along the upper Wailua River, then boulder-hop to a pool with two waterfalls. Short but slow with tricky footing. Only for the sure-footed. Tabis are required. A strenuous East side 2.5 miles round trip. Call Kathy Valier 826-7302.
